It is advisable that you have medical and dental examinations before you leave home, as the cost of medical care in the U.S. is very expensive. Also bring with you copies of your medical records and prescriptions for authorized prescriptions written in English.
The United States does not have a national healthcare system, and the cost of medical care can be catastrophic. A few days in the hospital, for example, can add up to thousands of dollars. To protect yourself from financial hardship in the event you become ill or injured, you must maintain insurance through the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System Student Health Plan.
